In General Discussion
The idea of "social democracy" implied, in C Level Contact List fact, that socialism constituted a force in search of the democratization of the most diverse social spaces. The economic sphere, as these men and women saw it, was far from democratic. Hence, they C Level Contact List were ready to discuss very seriously about the property regime. An economy in which the producers did not make decisions regarding what was produced was, clearly, an economy that C Level Contact List did not respond to basic democratic criteria. As Geoff Eley explains: while liberals consciously C Level Contact List worked for the separation of the economic sphere from politics, socialists came to see that very separation as a debilitating discrepancy. Or, as Jean Jaurès, the French socialist leader before 1914, put it: “Just as all citizens exercise political power democratically, in common, they must also exercise C Level Contact List economic power in common” (…) This – the socialization of the democracy—was the C Level Contact List crucial post-1848 departure. In the last third of the nineteenth century , socialists challenged political definitions of democracy with a new question: how can genuine democracy be achieved in a society fundamentally structured by class inequalities? ownership, distribution and control. The socialist perspective also implied C Level Contact List a practical consequence with the cause. Since the socialists constituted more than just political organizations, it was not by chance that, at that time, some of them tried to prefigure the desired democratic C Level Contact List societies. In the parties and organizations themselves, concerts, reading meetings and plays, sports teams (nucleated in gymnastic societies), choral and musical groups were held. The socialists also favored a fraternity between comrades: socialist doctors treated militants for free, there were C Level Contact List lawyers who represented workers and different professionals who made themselves available to men and women with whom they shared the ideal.
